Blocks ‐ list and descriptions
This page contains a list of available blocks with short descriptions.
Block that helps parts of content stand out.
Display a small image or icon and text side by side.
Embed audio files.
Display brief bio and photo of author(s) of a specific page. Images and text can be used within the block.
Add buttons with links to other pages.
Visualize student progress in the chapter (exercises attempted + points received). Automatically placed on chapter front pages.
Automatically placed on course front page. Do not use on other pages.
Add and display code snippets with syntax highlighting.
Arrange content in columns to have show contents side by side.
Contents of the block will be shown to students who all the given conditions. For example, a student must have a completed a certain course module before they will see the contents of the block. The block can contain following blocks: Heading, Paragraph, Button, Buttons.
A special block that is shown to students once they have completed a course (module).
- Register completion button: Congratulations block has a link to Open University enrollment system if the course code has been configured in the Modules tab. The course code must also be whitelisted in the Open University enrollment system.
- Generate certificate button: If certificate has been configured, students can generate their certificate through a button on the congratulations block.
Visualizes the student course progress (exercises attempted + points received). Placed automatically on the course front page. Do not use on other pages.
Generic embed block used with embed URLs. Please note that the LMS has blocks for embedding specific services such as YouTube videos.
Add exercises to the course material. See other wiki pages for more information on setting up exercises.
A list of exercises included in the chapter. Automatically placed on chapter front pages. Do not add to other pages.
Create content that can be expanded and collapsed.
Upload files for students to download. Creates a download button on the page.
Create flip card with different information on both sides (front, back) - you can add images and text. Students can click on the card to reveal the content on the other side of the card.

Items defined on the course glossary tab are shown as a table.
Add and edit headings.
Automatically placed at the beginning of each page. Do not add additional hero sections.
For highlighting short pieces of text.
A generic block for embedding content from other webpages. Please note that the LMS has blocks for embedding specific services such as YouTube videos. "An inline frame (iframe) is a HTML element that loads another HTML page within the document. It essentially puts another webpage within the parent page. They are commonly used for advertisements, embedded videos, web analytics and interactive content."
Add images.
Block that helps parts of stand out.
Add an element that catches attention to introduce the student to the topic of the page. The block consists of two elements:
- Heading (optional, can be removed if you just want to use the ingress / intro text part)
- Ingress / intro text: bigger text that stands out. Can be used for short introductory paragraphs at the start of pages.
Add instructions that stand out from the rest of the course material.

Add learning objectives - you can have Learning Objective Section block on each page of your course.
Ordered (numbers) and unordered (bullet points) lists.
An interactive block where students select the country they live in and after that a map of participants is shown to students.

Lists pages within a chapter. Automatically placed on chapter front pages. Do not use on other pages.
Enter and format text.
Add text that is displayed exactly as you type it.
Add quotes that include the quote text and the name of the person or entity being quoted. Commands a lot of attention.

Table with a specific design.
A box that you can flexibly use to highlight various types of content. For example: Use to list terminology covered on the page, or display a note to students.
You can customize the following:
- Label text (in the example: Key terminology)
- Label & edge color (in the example: purple)
- Number of items
Embed Thinglink content.
Embed Twitter / X content.
For adding poetry, lyrics and other kinds of verse.
Embed Vimeo videos.
Embed YouTube videos.
