Up-to-date OTFVis tutorial or manual?

by Larry Walker on 2017-01-18 16:46:16

Hello everyone,

I've managed to visualize a few simulations with Via, but no luck with OTFVis yet. I tried following the OTFVis instructions here and in the "work in progress" version of the book, but I'm getting stuck on the very first step – I can't find the OTFVis files referenced by these documents. They're both telling me to find the OTFVis.jar file from within the nightly builds – I simply can't find this file (I've downloaded what I believe are the nightly builds). Are these guides out of date, or am I doing something silly?

Thanks.

Dear Larry,

otfvis is not supported by us: Portable and somewhat bug-free visualization software is a fairly large task, and it would stretch our resources beyond what we can do.  If the commercial VIA option is not acceptable to the community, someone else would have to take this on.

Having said this, it should be possible to use the matsim download version Download ZIP together with the otfvis extension in   Extensions / Contribs (both mentioned under http://matsim.org/downloads ).  How this is plugged together is explained here: http://matsim.org/docs/extensions .

An alternative path would be to use the matsim example project (also see under http://matsim.org/downloads ) and then run the class RunTransitWithOtfvisExample.  But this really only makes sense if you are somewhat comfortable with Eclipse or IntelliJ plus maven.

Maybe someone else can chip in with more help.  All the best, good luck

Kai

It looks like the automated build process for nightly builds got broken some while ago, resulting in no nightly builds being available for contribs, sorry for that. I have now fixed the build script, and new nightly builds are now available at http://matsim.org/files/builds/. As an alternative, the files from the last stable release are available at our GitHub repository: https://github.com/matsim-org/matsim/releases.
