  • WMO updates (Anna) – recent approvals and upcoming plans
  • Evolution of codes and improvement of codes management
    • Review of the guidance and examples on reporting practices (Marijana)
    • Outcome: Guidance on the Community Site (https://community.wmo.int/en/activity-areas/wis/template-examples)
    • Action: Go back to task teams that contributed on the recent proposals UAS, DayCLI, Cryosphere, Marine observations BUFR templates to determine if further guidance (and what kind of guidance) would be useful, e.g., examples on the community site (Marijana leads)
    • Action: Create index table with the number and name of the GRIB code tables and put in the guidance (Anna)
    • Action: Fix brokens links on Community site (Anna)
  • Publication of GRIB and BUFR tables on the WMO Codes Registry – team discussed the relationship between the codes and other systems; it’s important to facilitate linkages (e.g., OSCAR/Satellite to CCT-05)
    • DECISION: Publish GRIB and BUFR codes to the WMO Codes Registry after every approved release
  • GRIB3 (Sebastien)
    • DECISION Wait until 2026 (to consider again later if there is more interest)
  • BUFR5 (Jeff)
    • DECISION: There are not enough requirements to to justify the cost for moving to BUFR5
    • Action: open an issue (ongoing) in BUFR4 for collecting limitations of BUFR4 – transfer from documentation of previous meetings
  • CREX discussion (Sibylle)
    • Freeze development of new CREX (No need to keep supporting it for new observations/templates), eventually remove from PDF and add a note referencing the last version;
    • DECISION: Declare it non-operational in INFCOM-3/EC-76
    • Next step: Determine best technical approach for how to freeze in GitHub
    • Action: investigate the impact of removing the CREX columns on software in Africa; (Abderezak)

THURSDAY

    • Inclusion of other standards and on possible approaches on WMO endorsement of community standards (Anna)
    • Team believes in the value of BUFR and GRIB and if there is an official approach for endorsement of external standards, then it needs to be done carefully otherwise a listing of standards in use for different data types might be sufficient
  • WMO applications related to or using GRIB and BUFR – brief dive into some of the other WMO systems, including OSCAR/Space
  • GitHub Issues and open proposals
    • We discussed options for registering GRIB and BUFR mime types with IANA and it’s outside of the expertise of this team to make a decision
    • ACTION: provide our opinions back to the TT-WISMD
    • ESA presented a new code flag table in BUFR for Ocean data
    • DECISION on proposal ownership
      • When there is a code needed for something managed by different organization than the proposer’s organization, the initiator may open an issue in requesting the respective organization to add clarification
