ASUS ROG Ally Handheld Companion Information

OEM buttons remapping

Handheld Companion allows for remapping the two front buttons (OEM 1 and OEM 2) and both back buttons (currently as one, OEM 3). Disable Armoury Crate and reboot the device to be able to do so.

Disabling Armoury Crate

  • Through Windows start, type "Services"
  • In the service list, find and disable startup for: ARMOURY CRATE SE Service and Armoury Crate Control Interface

Updating Bosch IMU drivers (aka Gyro)

Per default, the devices currently ship with Bosch Accelerometer drivers version 1.0.1.4 which do not have a functional gyroscope.

  • Update to 1.0.1.5 using the following file and script.
  • Install by running the Install drivers.bat file.

Using Armoury Crate and Handheld Companion at the same time

It's possible to use both these apps at the same time. Keep the following in mind:

  • AC takes priority on the special OEM buttons
  • AC gamepad mode set to Auto can cause trouble for HCs controller. For best results, set the Controller Mode to Gamepad in Armoury Crate/Control Center.
  • You can use HC's manual and AutoTDP at the same time as Armory Crate. You do not need to enable the Controller Service in order to use these.

Make sure Handheld Companion is loaded first before games

Handheld Companion must be started up, and the controller service started first, before games are started. This is because if a game starts before HC, it can see and grab the physical controller, and not HC's virtual controller. This can cause problems with double inputs.

Using Handheld Companion, Armoury Crate, and Steam (Steam Input) at the same time

This is asking for problems like double inputs, incorrect mappings, unresponsive buttons, etc. All 3 applications access and modify the gamepad. You should instead decide which 1 (maybe 2) application(s) you want to use for gamepad remapping and turn it off in the other(s).

Mapping multiple gamepad buttons to a hotkey

Handheld Companion does not support holding one button, and then pressing another button in terms of a hotkey. There is only 1) press a single button or 2) press multiple buttons at the same time

Known Issues

Below is a list of known issues related to Handheld Companion on the ASUS ROG Ally.

Using QuickTools minimizes a game or application

Put your game or application into Windowed or Windowed Fullscreen. QuickTools mostly won't work with an Exclusive Fullscreen game or app.
