Proposal for new branding - primarily logo, font and color scheme Motivation Proposal Backwards Compatability Feedback Voting Links
Chris Holmes
Not super applicable, though UI may be brought in line with color scheme, on 1.7.x and 2.0.x, when ready
Accepted.
GeoServer has long suffered from fairly weak identity. For much of its life it had no logo. Awhile ago Refractions contributed a logo, but it feels a bit out of date, and it never got a full identity treatment, like a solid font, or applying the color scheme broadly. OpenGeo has put some of its designer time in to creating a new set of identity assets, and has additional time to theme the blog, website, UI and any thing else that may make sense. We could decide to keep the old logo, or to entertain other proposals, but no matter what I think it makes sense to spend some energy on promoting a logo and brand, establishing a stronger visual identity.
If accepted this proposal will touch most of the user facing parts of GeoServer:
- 2.0.x and 1.7.x User Interfaces - new CSS/colors, favicon, and logo in key places.
- geoserver.org confluence instance - new CSS/colors, favicon, logo
- blog.geoserver.org wordpress instance - new CSS/colors/theme, favicon, logo
- update logos on various listings for GeoServer (ohloh, freshmeat, etc.)
The new proposed assets can be found at: [GeoServer Branding]
