Find Food User Story

John Darragh edited this page Feb 8, 2021 · 1 revision

This is the main story for a Food Seeker - someone who needs to use the application to find a free nearby meal or groceries.

  • Learn about the existence of food oasis, perhaps by word-of-mouth, from a search engine, or poster or other printed advertisement in a place they frequent.

  • Open their mobile phone browser and navigate to foodoasis.la or la.foodoasis.net.

  • The browser should prompt them on first use to Allow Location. This allows their browser to report their location, so the application can determine which organizations are nearby. They are expected to respond "Yes" to allow the app to use their location, but if they respond "No" the application will still work, but default to a location in Central LA or allow them to enter an address where they would like to find food.

  • They are presented with a "Landing Page" that allows them to enter a location or (if they chose "Yes" to the Allow Location prompt) select "Current Location" and initiate a search.

  • They are then presented with a map that shows markers where nearby food pantries and soup kitchens are located.

  • On a mobile device, they can pinch to zoom in or out or swipe to scroll the map to a new area. When they do so, a button will appear allowing them to re-execute the search for the new map area.

  • The user may tap on a "List" option to see the results in list format, instead of a map.

  • The user may also click on options to filter the results to only show pantries or only show meal programs.

  • Tapping on a marker will show salient information about the corresponding organization. From there, they can opt to see more details about the organization, initiate a call to the organization, or get directions to the oganization from their current location via Google Maps.

  • Optionally, they may Suggest an Edit by filling out a form and submitting it for the Administrators to review.

(For desktop devices, there is enough horizontal space that the application displays the results as both a map and the list results side-by-side.)
