Changing the way we make and store public policy. As data instead of as text. Because this opens up lots of possibilities for analysing, visualizing, evaluating and viewing policies.
The 'Digitaal Omgevingsbeleid' is a webapplication where everyone can 'explore' the spatial policies of the provincie of South Holland. This is developed with the believe that everyone should be able to see what the province does or strives to do. Furthermore, the application provides a way for policy makers to create new policies, or change those policies, while maintaining a logical structure. They are also able to see which colleque is responsible for what policy. This results in an overall more consistent and understandable policy that integrates solutions for current societal issues.
This 'Digitaal Omgevingsbeleid' project started as a result of the Omgevingswet; a new law in the Netherlands that intends to it easier for anybody to understand the spatial policies in a specific region. Because of this law the province of South-Holland also had to meet some requirements and change the existing structure used to implement policies. We used this as a leverage to move from policy as documents to policy as data.
