Software Release Version Names

Charles Forman edited this page Apr 21, 2017 · 1 revision

Guys,

It's very trendy for software to have a specific themed name associated with a version release.

For example: On the mac, every OS X version has had some sort of cat (Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion), until they ran out of cats and decided that OS XI sounds dumb, so they just switched to Mountains. Think Different™

Anyways, after reading Steve Jobs biography and deciding that we are kindred spirits, I must emulate him exactly (except the being dead part).

WE NEED THEMED VERSION NAMES.

Initially I thought white girl names would be great. Imagine: Storyboarder (Jenna), Storyboarder (Becka), Storyboarder (Sabrine). It's like neatly packaged software nuzzled in a premium Canada Goose Jacket. But I was I realized that people would assume our Software is extremely basic, unapproachable, and completely without value.

WHAT I PROPOSE IS:

How about movies we love? There are a ton of them! My only fear is that people will associate the movie name with the software, which can be very opinionated. So how about also include people in the list.

IDEAS:

  • Explorers
  • Walt
  • Goonies
  • Astoria (Town in Goonies)
  • Bass
  • Spirited
  • Paper Moon
  • Hitchcock
  • Ridley

Some shit like that?

Feel free to add to the list.

When to use a new name

After every major.minor. So: 1.0 would be Explorers. 1.1 would be Walt. 1.1.3 would still be Walt.

Presentation of the name would be: Storyboarder // version (1.1.3) Walt
