I wasn't sure whether or not to keep the vendor directory in the repo but based on this dep FAQ I just opted to leave it since it was already there.
The reason this is a single PR instead of two PRs is that I wasn't able to get
godepworking, but admittedly I didn't try very hard after seeing that the entire project was archived.
