Become a sponsor to Dave Hughes
Hey stranger! 👋
We probably don't know each other, but I'm glad you stopped by. Since you're reading this, you might be thinking about sponsoring me (or one of my projects). That's awesome! Let me share a little info and maybe I can convince you to select a sponsorship tier today.
My name's Dave and I'm from Vancouver, Canada. I've been exploring technology for over 25 years, coding in some fashion for nearly 20. I was an avid hacker for several years (and a pretty decent white hat, if I say so myself), but it was before bug bounties were really a thing, so I certainly didn't get rich doing it. I spent about seven years completing a four-year Computing Science (BSc) degree at Simon Fraser University, but I was working full-time the entire time I was in university, and working full-time as a software engineer for the last three years of university. I've worked for a handful of software companies ranging from a team of eight developers, to a multinational corporation. Since mid-2016, I've worked remotely for a software consultancy based in Guatemala (I was working remote long before COVID made it common).
I've been contributing to the open source community for nearly 15 years. Though I really enjoy sharing my skills with the world, I frequently struggle to dedicate enough time to have substantial contributions to established projects for more than a month at a time. My own side projects are similar, often worked on vigorously for a month or two, then pretty much forgotten. I want to break that pattern.
I would like to eventually shorten my work week to 3-4 days/week and dedicate 1-2 days/week to open source development, but with a family to care for, I can't easily give up 20-40% of my salary. I don't expect sponsorships to come close to replacing that income, but I hope that sponsorships could supplement my income enough to move toward that goal.
So, if you're still here with me, fantastic! I'd really appreciate if you would sign up for one of my sponsorship tiers.
If money is hard to come by and you can't sign up, that's alright too. I've been there and I know the feeling. If this is the case for you, send me a message to let me know if you appreciate my contributions to the open source community. Sometimes it's just nice to hear that I helped somebody. 😁
