The Future of Shoes

To understand Shoes's future, you must first understand its past.

Shoes was started by _why, long ago. It was originally part of Hackety Hack, and then made into its own project. But it's been a long time, and many of his original design decisions are based off of things that aren't true anymore. Primarily, Team Shoes has (mostly) come to an agreement that an all-Ruby Shoes would be much better than the current polyglot Shoes. So, to this end, there are a few pure Ruby Shoes variants popping up. They're experiments, to see if such an idea is viable. You can find out more about them in these blog posts. But it's the intention that if such things work out, one of them will end up replacing the main Shoes codebase someday.

Until that day, we're still improving the classic, "Red" Shoes. But eventually, we'll put them away.

Fast forward to 2013

The colorful rainbow over Shoesland has continued to expand, here is a full list of all the different Shoeses. After trotting down many different paths, team Shoes started to come together again to build the bestest Shoes yet, Shoes4.

While Shoes 4 still needs a lot of work, it's already a beautiful Shoe to behold. All effort that gets put into Shoes is now focused on improving Shoes 4 to make it as awesome as it can be.
