This is the Hortonworks HDP 3.1.0 Release of Hive 3.1 in a Docker container. No security is enabled and external data can be accessed via mounts.

To Build

$ docker build -t hdp_hive:3.1.0 .
$ docker run \
    -d --rm -p 10000:10000 \
    -v var_lib_hive:/var/lib/hive \
    -v ~/Projects/hive_docker/user_hive_data:/user/hive/data \
    hdp_hive:3.1.0

To Connect

jdbc:hive2://localhost:10000/default
