- The original file was downloaded from https://geohub.lio.gov.on.ca/datasets/lio::municipal-boundary-upper-tier-and-district/about. This gave us Municipal_Boundary_Ontario.geojson file.
- Alternatively we should have downloaded the latest geojson from https://ontariogeohub-lio.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/a159cf53aefb46ac806cda5c5f79792c_1/explore?location=47.528607%2C-84.732487%2C4.91. This gave us Geographic_Township_Improved.geojson file
- Create a list of municipalities where sunday gun hunting is allowed. Taking that list from https://www.ontario.ca/page/sunday-gun-hunting official website.
- Total number of municiplaities in Ontario are 687 but sunday gun hunting is only allowed in 183 so, we need to filter down the Geojson list to 183 municipalities. Along with that some reagions have multiple entries such as Ottawa has Island and Mainland entry so we needs to store both of them into our database. This step requires lot of manual work so be careful and take time to finish it.
- Break the resulting geojson list into small chunks. Run this python script split-geojson.py it takes list of municiplaities where sunday gun hunting is allowed along with original Municipal_Boundary_Ontario.geojson file. This will create multiple json files with few geojson to process.
- Once we have gullible chunks we will proess them one by one. We have a script ready create-well-known-text.py to build csv for well-known text. This is the format of geo-coordinates our application processes to show regions on the map. In every step chnage the values of 2 variable before executing the script file_path and output_csv_path.
- Last step for us is to push the resulting csv file to the database by converting into a INSERT query.
- we will make conversion in Notepad++. csv is semicolon separated.

'),\n('. - replace all semicolon with
', '. - Delete the first line and last line and copy the rest and paste on the DB weaver under the INSERT command. resulting query would look like below.
- After pushing data into the database revert all the changes to csv
- Whenever the geocoordinates got too big to fit in the database use https://mapshaper.org/ website to shrink its size by using simplify feature and then export it as geojson. process this geojson through create-well-known-text.py script to create csv file and then INSERT again into database.
