Expression Search: Tissue/stage-specific gene expression:

Tissue or stage-specific expression sets can be created using a combination of template searches, list creation and list set operations. The following gives an example of creating a tissue-specific expression set for the ovary from the FlyAtlas data:

  1. Create a list of genes expressed in all tissues other than the one of interest. For the flyatlas data this can be done using the template:

Gene --> Expression in a set of tissues

Note that you may also want to modify the criteria for 'expressed'. The default for this template defines 'expressed' as anything with an affy 'Up' call. However you may want to be more stringent and make use of the optional constraints on mNA signal, RNA enrichment or present call.

  1. Create a list of all the genes expressed in these tissues.
