ok_config¶ ↑

OkConfig is a crisp, yet full-bodied application configuration manager.

OkConfig is focused on webapp configuration. Meaning that you’ll load configuration at app startup and make changes to the configuration in bulk (usually from form parameters).

Usage¶ ↑

OkConfig.root = File.expand_path('../../config', __FILE__)
OkConfig.load "defaults", "user_settings" # 'user_settings' will overwrite 'defaults'
App = OkConfig

Paths can be to files or directories. If the path is a directory it will load all the files in that directory. Omitting any paths will load all files under the root.

You can load as many configurations as you would like. Files will be loaded in order. Each file will be recursively merged with the previous config file.

Alternatively, you can load from a hash, using the same syntax:

OkConfig.load({:foo => :bar})

Access the config via method syntax¶ ↑

App.name       # => "example.com"
App.email      # => { 'sender' => "[email protected]", 'port' => 25, 'host' => 'localhost' }
App.email.port # => 25

Intelligent Configuration Loading¶ ↑

As in life, we don’t always get what we want. For example, parameters received from a form submission will usually be strings.

#safe_load takes the same arguments and has the same behavior as #load, however, additionally it ensures that subsequently loaded arguments are coerced to their original types.

App.load({:foo => 1})
App.foo # => 1

App.safe_load({ :foo => "2" })
App.foo # => 2

App.load({ :foo => "2" })
App.foo # => "2"

Safe loading supports coercion of arrays, numeric and boolean types.

NOTE:

If the original value is an array, and the new value is a string it will be treated as if it were a CSV and the string split on the commas.

Arrays of boolean values are not supported at this time.

Note on Patches/Pull Requests¶ ↑

• Fork the project.

• Make your feature addition or bug fix.

• Add tests for it. This is important so I don’t break it in a future version unintentionally.

• Commit, do not mess with rakefile, version, or history. (if you want to have your own version, that is fine but bump version in a commit by itself I can ignore when I pull)
