Gatsby minimal starter

Kick off your project with this blog boilerplate. This starter ships with the main Gatsby configuration files you might need to get up and running with Prismic.

🚀 Quick start

  1. Create a Gatsby site.

Use the Gatsby CLI to create a new site, specifying the minimal starter.

    # create a new Gatsby site using the starter
    npx gatsby new my-prismic-starter https://github.com/maheshsamudra/gatsby-starter-prismic-blog
  2. Start developing.

Navigate into your new site’s directory and start it up.

    cd my-prismic-starter
    npm run develop
  3. Open the code and start customizing!

Your site is now running at http://localhost:8000!

Note: You'll also see a second link: http://localhost:8000/___graphql. This is a tool you can use to experiment with querying your data. Learn more about using this tool in the Gatsby Tutorial.

Open the my-prismic-starter directory in your code editor of choice and edit the files in src/templates/ folder. Save your changes and the browser will update in real time! Read more about Gatsby's createPages API

Getting Started:

  1. Create a repository in Prismic
  2. Create two custom types: "home_page" (Single type) and post (Repeatable type).
  3. When creating the "home_page" custom type, Select "Single Type" and type in "Home Page" as the name, and it will set the API ID to be "home_page".
  4. When creating the "post" custom type, select "Repeatable Type" and type in "Post" as the name, and it will set the API ID to be "post".
  5. Make sure that the API matches exactly.
  6. Use the JSON schema on /config/prismic/schema to create the fields.
  7. Add content to the home_page and add some posts. You can use the content and images on /config/prismic/content to get started.
  8. Add the API keys to the .env file. The API keys can be obtained from Prismic Repo's Settings → API & Security section.
    • GATSBY_PRISMIC_REPO_NAME=your-repo-name
    • PRISMIC_ACCESS_TOKEN=your-access-token
      • You can generate your Access Token from Settings → API & Security section. Under "Generate an Access Token" section, add a name and click "Add this application". Then it will display the access token under "Permanent access tokens".
    • PRISMIC_CUSTOM_TYPES_API_TOKEN=your-custom-types-api-token
      • You can generate your Custom Types API Token from Settings → API & Security section → Custom Types API. Under "Generate a new token" section, type in a name and click on "Add a token".
  9. That's it. You can start the project: npm run develop
