somehow the tags from the upstream weren't synced to my fork, after doing this manually:

git fetch upstream
git rebase upstream/master
git push
git push --tags

it works again... not ideal.

Using the 'sync fork' button doesn't seem to sync tags, sounds to me like a bug in GH.
