** Q: In the CLOCK replacement policy, when precisely does the "clock hand" move?

  • A: The clock hand never moves on a page hit. On a page miss, the current position of the clock hand is the first buffer considered for replacement. The replacement algorithm then proceeds, moving the clock hand until it finds a frame F for replacement. After replacing F, the hand moves one last time to the frame after F, where it will sit until the next page miss.
