I amateurishly develop free software.
Did you know that the GNU Project doesn't consider GitHub to be in tune with free software principles and that the Free Software Foundation plans to eventually launch a truly free alternative to GitHub? Whilst we wait for the FSF to actually launch their software forge, you can, in the meantime, use one of several alternative to GitHub instead. I recommend:
- GitGud on account of its laissez faire Terms of Service, although I'm not fond of its GitLab codebase;
- Sourcehut on account of its free codebase, although I'm not fond of its restrictive Terms of Service;
- Codeberg on account of its free Forgejo codebase, although, likewise, I'm not fond of its restrictive Terms of Use; or
- If you can afford to spend 25 USD per month, then you might want to use Hosted Gitea.
