Testing a release tarball

Tarball sanity check

  • extract to /tmp/something
  • ./configure && make DESTDIR=/tmp/something/tmpinst install
  • run gmond -t
  • run ldd on each binary
  • find . -name *.so

RHEL

  • Preparations
  • Install a machine with RHEL or CentOS
  • Install required dev packages
  • Set up directories and preferences for rpmbuild
  • Testing a tarball
  • rpmbuild -tb ganglia-${VERSION}.tar.gz

OpenCSW

  • Preparations
  • Obtain an account on the OpenCSW build farm
  • or set up an OpenCSW dev environment
  • either way, make sure you have the opencsw source tree from SVN checked out
  • Testing a tarball
cd opencsw/ganglia/trunk
svn update
vi Makefile  (edit version number)
mgar clean && mgar fetch && mgar makesum
svn commit -m 'ganglia: update for building version X.Y.Z'
mgar package
