BitTornado was John Hoffman's fork of the original Python BitTorrent client, adding useful, experimental features like cryptography and super-seeding. Because it is in Python, it can be fairly easily modified and played with, as well as used as a library for new torrent-related functions.

As a project, it has been defunct since 2009, but it is a stable and useful client, so I have imported it into GitHub from CVS. I don't intend to wholly rewrite or even maintain this library, but since I do occasionally play with building things on top of BitTornado, I will merge any refactoring I do in those pursuits.

I encourage anybody else to do the same, and if somebody wants to actively maintain this project, we can work out updating versions and get trackers to resume whitelisting BitTornado.
