# How to contribute

If you're reading this file, then you must be interested interested in helping out with this project. Thank you!

Anyone is invited to propose changes, fixes, and new features through pull requests in this repository. The following guidelines are intended to keep the commit history clean and easy to read.

## Testing

You can run the included unit tests by installing [busted](https://olivinelabs.com/busted/) and running `busted .` in the root directory. Please also feel free to extend these unit tests, especially if you're adding new functionality to the autotracker.

The tests will also be run automatically for your pull requests.

## Contributing

If you're making changes to the autotracker, please use the `autotracker` branch as the base for your PR. Ideally, the autotracker should stay compatible with Hamsda's pack. This will make it easier for Hamsda to merge this work into their pack if they choose to do so.

Any changes that you propose *outside* the scope of the autotracker should be based on `master`.

Please create a pull request with a clear explanation of what you've done; read more about pull requests [here](http://help.github.com/pull-requests/).

When you feel that your PR is ready to merge, you should rebase it into as few commits as possible. Rebasing is encouraged to help keep the commit history readable.

This repository generally follows the [Chris Beams standards](https://cbea.ms/git-commit/) for commit messages:

Separate subject from body with a blank line
Limit the subject line to 50 characters
Capitalize the subject line
Do not end the subject line with a period
Use the imperative mood in the subject line
Wrap the body at 72 characters
Use the body to explain what and why vs. how

Thank you for contributing, and I look forward to reviewing your work.

## About this fork

This fork adds autotracking functionality to [Hamsda's EmoTracker pack](https://github.com/Hamsda) for OOT Randomizer, without introducing any other changes. Please refer to the [upstream repository](https://github.com/Hamsda/EmoTrackerPacks) or [pack README](ootrando_overworldmap_hamsda/README.md) if you have any questions regarding the usage or behavior of the standard tracker features.

There is an **[active pull request](https://github.com/Hamsda/EmoTrackerPacks/pull/123)** to officially merge this work into Hamsda's pack. Please show support by giving it a 👍 if you want to see this happen!

This repo accepts pull requests! Fixes and enhancements to the autotracking scripts are welcome here. Any changes that you make *outside* the scope of the autotracker are not likely to be accepted. The goal of this fork is to keep Hamsda's pack intact and generally unchanged.
This repo accepts pull requests! Please see [CONTRIBUTING.md](CONTRIBUTING.md) for more information.

Huge thanks to [RiptideSage](https://github.com/RiptideSage) for making this project possible.

# Usage

When starting a new game, you should make sure that your tracker settings are configured correctly _before_ you connect to the emulator, as the autotracker will immediately start making changes based on your active settings. The autotracker can also be used with a file you already started playing; it will catch up and mark off all items and cleared checks.

### Things that are currently autotracked:

- Master Quest dungeon checks
- Which prize is awarded by each dungeon
- Whether the scarecrow's song is available
- Captures for spawn and entrance randomizer

To manually install or update this pack, simply copy [the zip file](https://github.com/coavins/EmoTrackerPacks/releases) into your EmoTracker packs directory. For me, this was in my Users folder:
To manually install or update this pack, download [the latest release](https://github.com/coavins/EmoTrackerPacks/releases) and put the zip file into your EmoTracker packs directory:

`C:\Users\coavins\Documents\EmoTracker\packs`

You don't have to extract the zip. When EmoTracker is reloaded, it should appear under "Installed Packages" alongside Hamsda's pack, with (Autotracker) in the name.

## Activate autotracker in EmoTracker

To activate the autotracker, right-click the robot icon in the lower right corner of EmoTracker and choose "SNES", then "Lua". When the robot turns red or yellow, it is ready.

* Note: You should make sure that your tracker settings are configured correctly before you connect to the emulator.

## Load connector script in BizHawk

Download the [bizhawk-connector](https://github.com/coavins/bizhawk-connector/releases) script and extract it anywhere. In BizHawk, after your ROM is loaded, go to `Tools > Lua Console`. In the new window, go to `Script > Open Script` and navigate to the `connector.lua` file where you downloaded it.
