Geneva Bible App

This is a simple Bible App based on the Geneva Version that allows you to switch between the Modern English and Old English; and between Hebrew Sacred Names and Traditional English Names for Jesus(Yeshua) and God(Yahweh).

The App is a Progressive Web Application which allows you to convert the web site to a local App on your device. While it loads initially like a website, it allows you to use it offline just like a normal app. PWAs combine the flexibility of the web with the experience of a native application. You can learn more about PWA at this site https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_web_applications.

The last edition of the Original Geneva Bible was translated in 1599 so the English is very outdated. This project aims to allow users to switch between Old English and Modern Emglish and between Sacred Names and Standard English Names. The user can easily switch to any mode as we use a programmable method for the switching without tampering with the actual Bible Data.

Users can contribute freely. As you read the Bible you can suggest words that can be modernized. You are also free to modify the json files that have the conversions between the old english words and the modern english words; and between the sacred names and the standard english names. You can also contribute freely to the improvement of the app. Once we are satified, we will commit the changes.

I decided to do the project because I wanted a pure English Bible version that wasn't sanctioned by any King or questionable organisation. You can read more about the Geneva from Wikipedia here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Bible.

To run the app simply click this link https://ccwalkerjm.github.io/geneva_bible_app/

I should add that there is a modern english version of the Geneva Bible but it is not in the Public Domain.
