Plastic waste is a serious worldwide problem that has an impact on ecosystems and local communities everywhere. One factor contributing to this issue is a lack of knowledge about the various kinds of plastic and appropriate recycling techniques. Our team has created the "Replaste" concept, an AI-based waste education platform, to address this issue.
Our main goal is to address the issue of inappropriate plastic waste disposal and recycling, which arises from a lack of user awareness and guidance. Our research questions center on how we can use technology—more especially, machine learning—to assist users in correctly identifying various plastic types and offer customized recycling or disposal recommendations.
Through this project, we aspire to create a mobile application that can detect and classify various plastic waste items using computer vision and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. By integrating this AI-powered recognition capability into the app, we can offer users real-time guidance on the appropriate recycling or disposal methods for each type of plastic. This will empower individuals to make more informed decisions and develop sustainable waste management habits.
Tackling the problem of plastic pollution is essential for creating a more harmonious relationship between humanity and the environment. Our team is driven to develop innovative technological solutions that can drive positive change and promote a sustainable future.
