This is a little out of date and the Medium article is a little hard to follow as a consequence. The keystone documentation requires a keystonejs file, but in this implementation the code is implemented in index.js instead. After installing recipes and logging in again there is no access to recipes as described in the article. It is also worth checking the versions of all npm modules and updating where appropriate BEFORE you go any further. Another thing to be careful of is the index.js files - there are more than one...
