Why does it need DSS? That patch is super intrusive!

DSS offers an easy way to have several powerup items without having to use a dynamic item system to unload unneeded graphics. I also love how DSS ended up being, I don't see issues using it.

Can I remove the DSS requirement of this patch?

Sure. You're on your own though. Good luck.

LoROM version?

Nope. DSS needs SA-1. The patch might still work without SA-1, but you'd have to remove DSS code from it.
