Field Electronics
This page is a visual work instruction on the set up of Evergreen Field Electronics.
- Roll the field electronics cart down to the field.
- Route power to the field and scoring table where the field electronics are located according too xxxxxxx.
- Connect the field electronics cart power cable to the main power feed of the cart.
- Turn on the power strip of the field electronics cart
- The Cisco 3560 managed 48port network switch should turn on and you should hear its fans spinning. Attached computers should have their power lights illuminated, and the Field Electronics Primary Router should have LED's flashing on its front panel.
- Open the FMS laptop and turn it ON, as well as log in
- Open the CA executable on the desktop or in the cheesy arena folder on the desktop *A terminal should open displaying a few lines of code indicating CA is running correctly. If the CA server indicates the IP address is set incorrectly or other errors occur - troubleshoot until CA launches and runs correctly.
- Connect phone, hotspot or WAN cable to field electronics WAN or USB 3.0 port and enable tethering if a hotspot or phone sharing internet
- Layout iPads on scorers table: blue on blue side, red on red side in the correct order as shown in the Field Electronics Diagram
- Turn on all iPads and ensure they connect to the field WiFi
*Ensure FMS Laptop is ON, network connected to the CISCO managed network switch, and the Field Electronics Primary Router is ON and connected to the CISCO managed network switch before proceeding

Open CHROME on all iPads, the last page displayed should automatically pull-up and either clocks or red/blue alliance teams should display *If an incorrect webpage is displayed go to Event Staff Links and click the hyperlink to the correct page that particular iPad should display.

Once the field walls are all up, attached to each other, and stable; one-by-one take the iPad in its case and attach to the field wall in the designated location with a drill, torx bit, and 2in torx wood screws meant for the field

Route and secure iPad power cables along the field walls to their appropriate powered USB ports/hubs

Ensure each USB power connection is ON, and all iPads are charging

Press the home button on each iPad quickly 3-times to enter Guided Access mode that should lock out the entire or a portion of the screen to prevent inadvertent or malicious tampering with the display during the event
- iPad screen may look like the picture on the top or the bottom depending on if the entire screen is restricted, or only a portion of the screen is restricted, respectively.
- If the field is POWERED DOWN OVERNIGHT, you can turn off all iPads and turn them back on in the morning after the FMS laptop and field WIFI are up and running
- Setup and plug in the AV Computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse on the scores table right of the field electronics cart *** Ensure the FMS computer and field electronics cart is up and running before proceeding**
- Work with the AV operator to ensure they can connect to the Field Electronics Primary Router (ethernet jack to a LAN port), and pull up the CA Audience Display from Event Staff Links
- A green-screen and potentially match overlay should be visible at this webpage
- The AV Operator should now be able to chroma key insert any camera feeds into the CA Audience display page and set up an event stream to any prefered video or stream hosting websites (youtube, twitch, etc...)
HHS Cart TV's are being used for various audience displays according the Sussex Scrimmage technology map/layout. The devices are not connecting to the field electronics wireless network, but staying connected to the schools network and performing their respective duties (streaming the live-stream from youtube, displaying a menu from a flash-drive or website, FRC Nexus Queuing webpage, pit announcments webpage, etc...).
Mentors or Advisors with school user accounts will log into these displays with portable keyboards/mouse and bring up the relevant page from Event Staff Links, leaving the display up/active and moving onto the next TV Cart.
