Focus

MONAI was initially built around the needs of the radiology community, but always with a view to extending out into other domains. To that end, the Pathology Working Group was set up to define strategies and directions to achieve that goal. The objective is not to form a separate Digital Pathology initiative, but rather to guide the broader MONAI strategy such that Pathology is an integral part of the core MONAI releases. To meet these objectives, the group will identify the opportunities to create features, functions and working examples that will serve the community of ML researchers working with Whole Slide Image data. Using their networks, this collate requirements and, from these formulate a development roadmap that is prioritized to ensure that the broader community can focus on the innovative and interesting rather than the time-consuming, repetitive or difficult tasks that are somewhat inherent to digital pathology.

In addition to Pathology Working Group meetings, the Developer meetings are set up to support the strategy set by the main Pathology WG, with a bi-weekly cadence. The goal is to agree development priorities, formulate the technical direction.
