House Advertisement and Premium Content Promotion

House Advertisement and Premium Content Promotion are two similar terms used in AdditionalFiltersCN.

House Advertisement refers to advertisement between different websites or services belonging to a same owner. For example, Company A has website B and online service C, on website B there's an ad promoting online service C, and this ad is a so called House Advertisement.

Ad between different pages belonging to a same websites can be counted as House Advertisement, but ad between different owners are always common advertisements, although popular rule lists may also ignore them easily, just like House Advertisements. AdditionalFiltersCN will try to catch this kind of common ad as well as "House" ones.

Premium Content Promotion refers to advertisement which promotes non-open service provided by anyone. Thus, the word "Content" in "Premium Content Promotion" means almost everything, as long as they are promoted and "Premium". The word "Premium" can mean any demanded user action. Premium can be paid, need login, or even just need to watch a ad (When our blocker is on).

An ad can be both House Advertisement and Premium Content Promotion. For a familiar example, Company A has website B and paid service C, on website B there's an ad promoting paid service C, and this ad is a so called House Advertisement, and, at the same time, Premium Content Promotion.

The same points:

  • is ad
  • as annoy as common ad, but often missed by popular rule lists, maybe because they both do fit the content seemlessly.
  • promoting a relatively fixed service, not showing seemingly random pics or links provided by an advertisement intermediary like DoubleClick (There's no DoubleClick anymore. It's now Google Ads, Google Marketing Platform, and Google Ad Manager. Should we say Goodbye to DoubleClick?).

The differences:

  • House Advertisement is judged by both ad source and ad target, Premium Content Promotion is judged only by its target.
  • House Advertisement is about promotion, while Premium Content Promotion is about profit.
