A significant portion of vulnerabilities in Android apps can be attributed to insecure communication between components of Android apps. One way to mitigate this is to provide better education for developers.
My final year university project was to develop a set of intentionally vulnerable Android apps to show vulnerabilities caused by Inter Component Communication. I made a set of 9 apps (most did not have much functionality), which either contained a vulnerability or were malware that attacked the vulnerable apps.
Moreover, I created a Home app, which guides users in learning about the various vulnerabilities and explains to them how they can be fixed.
After I finish my MSc degree, I plan to continue working on this project, to add more apps with other vulnerabilities and to gamify the Home app.
