pattern cycle mode
When you press a specific button on the apc you will go into pattern cycle mode. You can now select multiple patterns. Only one pattern is displayed, and every once in a while the next pattern is activated from the selection.
pattern cycle mode uses red colours. the active pattern is flashing red
open questions:
when to switch? every few beats? make this selectable?
what is the next pattern? always top to bottom, or random?
will the flash buttons still be in flash mode? -> yes

or: shift+button press will put the column in pattern mode (colunm only)
