[Game Mode] Steam crash on game exit with Game Recording #1862

Same issue here on my Steam Deck LCD 512. Been happening since the latest Steam update. I get the same thing as well, also "cured" by turning off game recording. It does seem to be recording something, as there are files created in the gamerecording directory (specified in desktop Steam settings), but they don't show up as clips or recordings on the game's Steam page in GameMode. |
I have the same exact problem. Also, creating clips with the Steam Button + Right D-Pad triggers a sound but doesn't record any clip at all. This used to work properly before, even using the Steam Beta. Only way to stop the crashing is disabling Background recording altogether. |
Observed the same issue on Bazzite installed on my GPD Win 4 2023 while the recording feature on stock SteamOS on my Steam Deck works fine. Both running stable Steam clients. grepped gamescope packages on both systems for reference: SteamOS

Updated system today.
Clip feature seems works fine now, I can see the clip is saved in Media page after hitting Home+Dpad right, and can export it normally (tried sending the clip to my other laptop). However, Steam client will still crash after exiting a game. |
I've been told that background game recording will be fixed in an upcoming Steam Client beta release |
As I have tested, it's not fixed by the Steam beta client released on Nov. 25 with Bazzite stable also release on Nov. 25. Maybe next one. Nov. 27, still crashing. |
The gamescope version from Bazzite Nov.25 release (3.15.11-15) is still behind the version on SteamOS (3.15.14-1) |
The fix will not come from Gamescope or any package version at all, the fix will come from Valve within the Steam Client without any package changes required. The Steam Deck client release notes from Valve should mention when the issue is fixed. |
It's been a few versions of Steam beta but I feel like it's still not fixed, can anyone confirm if it's just me? |
I've not seen anything in the client release notes so I assume it's still under internal testing for now |
This evening's Deck Beta client update seems to have fixed it on my end |
I've tested it on my Steam Deck and it's also working now. |
The beta client last night makes my Steam BPM completely unresponsive... I'm unable to verify if the update fixes the issue. |

Steam crashes once the game is closed.
