Compiles OK , but get Fatal Python Error: Interpreter not initialised ( version mismatch ? ) #23

OSX Lion 10.7.5
Complete reinstall, with clean disk.
Only used brew to install ( that part worked beautifully )
running gnu-companion gives the error

Fatal Python Error: Interpreter not initialised ( version mismatch ? )
Abort trap 6

Forgot to say, that I followed the instructions on the readme exactly
