thunder-distribution vs. thunder-project #21

The installation instruction on https://github.com/thunder/thunder-distribution link to https://thunder.github.io/thunder-documentation/quick-install but this page only mentions thunder-project, but not the distribution anymore.

So what is the exact difference between those projects?
Is thunder-distribution dead or should not be used anymore?

thunder-project seems to be Drupal 9 only.
Where can we find the installation instructions for thunder-distribution for Drupal 8?
