doc.name vs output.name in .toml config

I can't understand the difference between these two:

• doc.name : "will be used to name output files"

  	The name of the document. This is distinct from the document title. This value
  	will be used to name output files, so it should be relatively short and
  	filesystem-friendly.

• output.name : "a name given to output", "in the build directory, in a subdirectory with this name"

  	A name given to the output. By default, build products for each output will be
  	placed in the build directory, in a subdirectory with this name.

Additional context not super-related to above:

As i want the project to remain compatible with the pdflatex too, my main file name i.e. output.index will be set to document_topic_name_year.tex the _preamble.tex and _postamble.tex will remain blank.

Remains is how to set the output directory, and name of the output pdf document to match this main file name (again, similar behaviour as with pdflatex invoked via texstudio)

it seems that output.name is for multiple outputs (lets call it multiple output targets for now) but i still can't see any further.
