<h1 id="h:what-is-multi" class="page-anchor">What is MULTI?</h1>
<p>MULTI is a fantastic 2-player math game designed with the joy of mathematics in mind. <span class="bold">This game is so fun your kids won't want to stop playing, and neither will you! </span></p>
<p>The game was originally designed for students in 2nd-5th grade to develop a deeper understanding of multiplication, multiples, and factors. However, over the years as more people had a chance to play the game, the rich strategy and gameplay have proven seriously fun for people of all ages!</p>
<p>In this multidimensional take on tic-tac-toe, players must harness the structure of multiples and factors, as they play on 9 small tic tac toe boards simultaneously in hopes of winning 3 small boards in a row on the big board! </p>

<h1 id="h:why-the-world-needs" class="page-anchor">Why the world needs Multi</h1>
<p>Mathematics is a polarizing topic! For some, it is a fountain of wonder, beauty, and intrigue. For others, it is a cold dark thing, something to be avoided or even feared. Yet, my experience has shown that <span class="bold">everyone can find joy in mathematics when it is presented in the right way!</span></p>
<p><span class="bold">Perhaps</span> <span class="bold">no single topic in elementary mathematics education has been more mistreated than multiplication.</span> The antiquated and ill-informed focus on memorization and speed has single-handedly contributed to millions of young students developing math anxiety. Many can identify with this need for a different way to learn about multiplication but do not know where to begin.</p>
<p><span class="bold">Multi is a game that was invented to provide a joyful and playful context for which to explore multiplication, multiples, and factors. Not only does it accomplish the goal of developing fluency with multiplication facts, more importantly, it also teaches about the structure and relationship between multiples and factors.</span> </p>

<p><span class="bold">Using The Factor Board To Place Xs and Os:</span></p>
<p>On the first turn, the first player places a token on a number on the Factor Board and places Xs on each square that has that number.</p>
<p>In the example below, the 1st player placed the token on 4 and places Xs on all the 4s on the Multi Board. </p>

<p>Player 2 then places the second token on a number in the Factor Board and places an O on each square that has the product of the two numbers.</p>
<p>In the example below, the 2nd player has placed the second token on 6 and places Os on all 24s because 6x4=24.</p>

<p>In each subsequent turn players must move <span class="bold">one of the two tokens </span>to claim the squares corresponding with the product of the two numbers with tokens.</p>
<p>In the example below, the 1st player has moved the 6 to the 3 and places Xs on all 12s because 4x3=12.</p>

<p><span class="bold">Placing a Large X or O</span></p>
<p>When you get 3 in a row in a small tic-tac-toe board replace the small Xs/Os with a large X/O.</p>

<p>The graphic design work is done for the box, board, and components. And I have printed and tested prototypes. I am now in the design verification stage with Panda Game Manufacturing, which will be completed before the end of the Kickstarter Campaign. Starting from the end of the KS campaign, Panda Game Manufacturing provides the following estimated timeline:</p>

<p>My name is Federico Chialvo and I have been creating and sharing joyful experiences of mathematics with kids and adults for the past 15 years. Over the years, in pursuit of joyful mathematics, I have used games, puzzles, and stories to present mathematics as an open, creative and intrinsically human experience.</p>
<p>This year I started Joyful Mathematics in hopes of sharing resources that allow people to enjoy mathematics together. However, there still may be a variety of issues that may change the shipping date. I have set the shipping date at the most conservative end of the range they gave, but there may be unforeseen delays in delivery none the less.
