In its previous life, this project was in the process of moving the buttons from the icons in folder 'icons2' to the icons in folder 'icons'. We should complete the move and remove 'icons2'.

I'm personally using font icon and I'd love to replace all the current icons by this (maybe Font-Awesome which is licensed under MIT License). But I guess we will have to wait this sproutcore/sproutcore#964 first.

Font-Awesome is a great idea! I'll take another look at sproutcore/sproutcore#964 when I have time to work on this, but my fundamental problem with that change remains.
