Im the main website there is no Arabic option within the languages you offer,
would be great to offer Arabic option.

Hi @alighali85, would you be interested in helping translate the documentation to Arabic? Do you know others who would help in the translation? We have a process for setting up new languages, but need help with the translations.

Hey @joeldenning, where can I see the process of adding the translations? I may be able to help, I can search for other participants as well :)

Here is the issue where we set up the portuguese translations. I am happy to help get some of the initial work set up, once we are ready.

Technical tasks

  • Decide on a language code to use. Maybe ar? The React translations have only ar, and doesn't have regional variants of Arabic.
  • Create a new repo called ar.single-spa.js.org. Manually initialize it to be the same git tree as single-spa.js.org. Do not do this by forking the repo -- a fork has a separate git tree. You can do this by initializing to empty repo (no readme, no gitignore) and then adding that as a remote to your local copy of single-spa.js.org:
cd single-spa.js.org
git remote add ar [email protected]:single-spa/ar.single-spa.js.org.git
git push ar master:master
  • Set up the bot to automatically commit to ar.single-spa.js.org whenever a PR is merged into single-spa.js.org. When a merge conflict happens, a pull request is created instead of a commit to master. We're currently doing this with https://github.com/guguji5/sync-fork-repo
  • Update docusaurus config to correct domain
  • Update CircleCI badge in readme to correct url
  • Enable builds in CircleCI. Add the GITHUB_TOKEN env variable
  • Modify /website/static/CNAME in to be the correct domain.
  • Force HTTPS in the repository settings in Github. This takes a day or so after the CNAME is set for the SSL cert to be set up.
  • Create a pull request to the js.org repo, adding the subdomain. Should be similar to this: zh-hans.single-spa.js.org js-org/js.org#3747
  • Add Arabic to translations.js, so that it appears in the list at https://single-spa.js.org/languages

Organizational tasks

  • Find at least one other person besides yourself who can help with the translations.
  • Evaluate time commitment of maintaining the translations.
  • Translate the files /website/versioned_docs/version-5.x directory.

Can you confirm whether ar makes sense as the language code and subdomain to use? If so, I will proceed to create the repository. I will also mention @guguji5 here, since he will be the one to set up the bot that keeps the repo in sync.

Also, please join the single-spa slack workspace. The #maintainers and #translations channels are two good ones to join. And feel free to message me directly there to say hi. The single-spa core team uses that slack workspace to communicate and coordinate on projects like this.

hey, thank you for initializing all the setup so fast, I am still trying yo find out whether I have enough time to start this now, for the time being I posted in a developers group I am in, calling for participants, will see if someone else is interested in helping us translate single-spa, will back to you in 2-4 days,

  • for language code according to ISO mentioned here (ar) should be the correct code, Arabic variants and dialects are not important at all in any official documentation, its just fine and better to use standard Arabic.
    source for the language code: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes

Hi @alighali85 , The bot need some information as this link, the language, the code and the reviewer name in github.

@guguji5 we can use
{ "name": "Standard Arabic", "code": "Ar-ar", "reviewers": ["@youOrMe"] }

👍 sounds good. I will hold off on creating the github repo until that time.

reviewers

the fields of reviewers should be a github account, this one will receive the PR email if new change in document happens.

I find @youOrMe is not a github account, so could you be the one to review all change (that may include some conflict ) ?

@joeldenning Could you give me a message after creating a git repository single-spa in Ar-ar ? otherwise the bot will cause an error to sync a nonexistent repo.

Sure. Like I said in my previous comment, I am waiting for confirmation that there are multiple translators interested and able in helping out with the Arabic translation. Once that is confirmed, I will create the repo.
