A Gem That I Built

This would be an on-going series, a bit like the My Ruby Story presentation request, in which people could talk about a Gem that they have published, the motivations for making it, the problems they encountered, and how they resolved them.

I talked about a gem I made a while back, and I was surprised to find out that a large majority of the room have also published gems, so there must be some interesting stories there.
