Cloud fatigue sets in,
Longing for self-hosted peace,
Already in hand

Title: Deploy Rails anywhere
About: Kamal - a new kid on the block, which will be part of Rails 8 soon, which makes deployment process quite easy (at least on paper).
I will try to demo how-to (focusing on self hosting):

  • setup and deploy to clouds: aws and alike etc (may be skipped, as it is covered by many already)
  • deploy to home server, expose to local basic http
  • set up SSL, expose https to local
  • expose self-hosted server to web via CloudFlare
  • deploy to multiple servers / form a cluster (optional / not confirmed)

I am reading Kamal book (The missing manual), and perhaps will do some takeaways from it not found in the docs / on the web.

Timing: SEP/OCT-2024
