BCF2000 on M1 Mac OSX 12

Hi,

I haven't run MIDI2LR on a mac before - only a PC and it worked fine. I can install the plugin and my BCF2000 will adjust settings in Lightroom but the faders don't update. For example - I can use fader 1 to set exposure. But, when I go to the next image it doesn't reset the fader position to 0 (or the current exposure). I can't figure out what may be going wrong (ports? security? something else?). I tried last version of 4 (4.3? as well). TIA

Thanks for posting the log file.

1. Pickup is set to disabled. This also disables synchronization. (See https://github.com/rsjaffe/MIDI2LR/wiki/Application-Settings-Dialog). Does setting it to enabled fix the problem?
2. If that doesn't work, try assigning the command Photos->Manual Update to a button. Does pressing that button when the controls are unsynchronized fix the problem?
3. There've been other reports on the M1 mac about lack of synchronization. I think those were about the BCF2000, but I'm not sure. If you have a different controller, give it a try. Otherwise, I'll need help in debugging this sort of issue, as I do not have an M1 mac and any problem like this is probably in third-party software (e.g., the MIDI driver or Juce), which makes it doubly hard to find and fix.

Unfortunately I tried pickup both ways and no effect. The only thing that seem to make the faders move was loading the BCF2000 in an emulation mode (HUI or Mackie Control) but then it was indicating (2) inputs happening at the same time on my fader adjustment (I think it was a pitch bend and a location update). The fader was being returned not to middle but to the very bottom constantly. But, at least it was causing the faders to actually move (albeit in a locked at the bottom state).

There is an interesting behavior - say for Exposure on fader 1. Even though the fader locations don't update I have to scroll past the existing exposure setting point on the image with the fader for it to start having an effect on the image again. It shows a side-by-side of my current fader location on the left and the current lightroom setting on the right. So, for instance it says "Exposure 0.20 1.06". The 0.20 will change the number with my fader move but won't actually update the image until I slide past 1.06 and then it will start actually adjusting the image and the first number disappears. I like this behavior - I guess it's the next best thing to actually having the faders update. But, it would be nice if the faders were reactive.

The Photo's -> Manual update had no effect on anything.

That behavior (two numbers showing) is pickup mode working. The invariant number is the current setting for the current photo and the changing number is the control value. MIDI2LR shows this so you can know how far and in what direction to move your control to match the current photo and thus start using the control's values (pickup up the control).

Ok, so I have a MOTU USB midi interface and by using that interface and just the MIDI I/O of the BCF2000 - it works correctly now. I had to set the BCF2000 to user S4 (hold store and edit together - then push down and rotate on the first dial to select mode - it has U and S modes (USB and STANDALONE).

My expectation is that you need two cables. In / Out. A traditional midi interface is just a converter In / Out / Thru for MIDI signals. Mark of the Unicorn makes some great ones. But you don't need anything fancy. Once you've got it plugged into your computer you're going to be connecting the out from one device to the in on the other device and vice versa. You may need to go to the MIDI utility and connect the two devices together in the utility (you'll see the two devices if they are installed correctly).

Most USB cable interfaces have two MIDI cables already, so you only need to purchase one interface. Look at the link I posted and you'll see.

Was hyped for trying this solution, unfortunately I cant get the controller to change it's operating mode. "hold store and edit together" just doesn't do anything for me. Also reset via Edit and Exit doesn't work. Any ideas?

I attempted the S-4 mode / MIDI Interface solution last year and couldn't get it to work. I decided to try again this week. I have succeeded in getting the encoders to update as I switch between photos. It now remembers my adjustments for each image and I don't have the issue of having to turn the knob a long way to catch up with the previous edit. Thank you!

Gave this another try today. Thought my Edit/Store button is broken since I couldn't switch to the mode selection. Found this solution:

• Turn the device off
• Hold the 5th button (from left) while turning on until the display shows "EG"
• Use the first dial to switch to S-3 or S-4

Then I was in the wrong Emulation Mode (B-Control is needed)

• Turn the device off again
• Hold first button when powering on
• Display should show P-1 for first preset now

Thanks for doing that. That shows that the problem is in the BCF2000 driver, not MIDI2LR.

Sure; I'm glad to have the software. So, playing with it a bit more - Exposure Contrast and White are all responsive. Highlight, Shadow, and Black don't move automatically. They track when I move them but they won't move automatically to a previous position when the photos change.

[EDIT] It's a bit erratic. Now, HL is working. Going to have to keep playing and seeing what happens. ]

Now that is simply weird. All should either track or not. Are you using quick develop for highlight shadow and black--that wouldn't track, but normal develop should.

I tried the midi cable and changed the BCR2000 to S4. It behaved the same as with USB. I’m going to go back to USB. Would you remind me which operating mode I should use for USB? U1, U2, U3, U4? Just chiming in to say that I had the same issue and was able to fix it by purchasing a MIDI to USB cord (I bought the iConnectivity Mio). I had to switch the BCF2000 from USB mode to Standalone mode (hold Edit and press Store; spin the top left dial until the screen says S-4) and back in business. Faders now send and receive inputs.

What mode do you have your BCF2000 set to? (BF, LC, MC, etc.) with the S4 emulation?
(This is changed by holding down the one of the top five left buttons while switching on the unit).
