Versioning

The current versioning scheme keeps Verovio versions in sync with MEI releases. The principle is that even version numbers for Verovio releases are used for the latest stable version of MEI, and odd version numbers for releases for a development version of MEI.

While this alignment somehow helps clarifying the status of Verovio, it remains not very straightforward to understand. Also when to switch a development version of MEI remains quite arbitrary.

For this reason, we will switch to increasing the major release version for Verovio once per year, with version 5.x.x for 2025, and so on. Switching to a development version of MEI will happen independently, whenever appropriate. However, this will always correspond to a minor release and will be properly documented.
