Probably will use free version of MailChimp at first, and create a simple set of drop emails after signing up. Integrating with GitHub releases or asset updates will be tricky, unless there is a trigger already available.

add a voluntary email address field for update notifications. Maybe
part of the installation process? For some other utility software I set
up a sign-in and I was amazed at how many people downloaded it. Not a
priority.
