When viewing an alternative version of a page, the alternative page appears to the side of the current page, allowing you to swipe to one side (and back to your own wiki again), to view comparisons).

The basic structure of this is straightforward to imagine, but:

  • The specifics of the interface experience (e.g. how to do it without people feeling lost, or being unable to get back, etc) are more complicated and require some design exploration & assumption testing before we can create a spec
  • This is a large piece, and includes some unknowns- at least 12hrs
  • We suggest a spike to do the interaction design, removing unknowns - 4hrs

Dickon comments:

At present the comparison page opens in a separate tab, and both pages are mounted side by side. I like this as it is very clear that "I am not in my manual any more" - LABELLING and EXPLAINING will be key to getting this feature to work, as wel as straight visuals..; could you perhaps have both pages side by side, but with basically the same view template as appears when you see the page in its natural habitat (except tinged with different colour/stock?) - then you could use zooming to focus on one or the other?
