Translating media-receiver to C?

I'm trying to translate the media-receiver example to C. It works but glitches, e.g.

1. Sometimes the camera will turn off before you even copy the browser response to the terminal window
2. Sometimes it will stream for a bit and then turn off the camera and hang
3. Sometimes the camera will stay on but no video window will pop up - no datagrams will be reported as being received
   How I am translating the most relevant parts:

Can you please hint what I may doing wrong here? These issues don't arise on the same machine in the same browser, with the original media-receiver

After retrying over and over again and switching to a different distro, the issue is gone. Apparently this was some configuration issue under archlinux.
