Everyone is familiar with HTTPS and the 🔒 icon on browser. But what else is using TLS?

What bad has happened when certificate verification failed? Did someone lose big pile of cash? Any references for importance of testing?

Mail-related protocols IMAP, POP3 and SMTP.
