Want to try out some of the tools?

For those that want to try out some of the new tools available, here's a really simple script (which presumes you have downloaded the tools you are interested in into $HOME/zopen/prod either with zopen download or directly with the pax commands from the different port repos, e.g. perl build

Create a script called devenv as follows:

orig="${PWD}"
tools="gawk curl diffutils m4 make less gzip xz perl tar"
for tool in $tools; do
  cd "${HOME}/zopen/prod/${tool}" && . ./.env
done
cd "${orig}"

and then 'source' it, e.g.

. ./devenv

You can change the list of tools of course... And these tools are unsupported, so your mileage may vary, but if you hit bugs, please open up issues and/or fix the bugs :)

Most (all?) of the tools support --version so you can check that things are ok by seeing what version of the tool you have, e.g.

perl --version                                                                                                                      

This is perl 5, version 37, subversion 4 (v5.37.4 (v5.37.2-469-g88745cf76c*)) built for os390
(with 1 registered patch, see perl -V for more detail)
