Ice modifers

Awesome project, it's strange this isn't much more prominent, the documentation and website are great.
One thing I was unsure of was the role of ice modifiers.
Although I mostly want to use zshell to load snippets and plugins, for a lot of docs in the wiki, packages are the emphasized example.
So I'm not sure, do ice modifers work the same for binaries and snippets and zsh libraries etc. If not, which work for which?
Another thing is does zi check if our current plugin/snipper/etc is the latest? If so how?
