Test Stackable on M1 Mac with RancherDesktop (K3S)

Hello,
I would like to test Stackable with the demos provided by the stackable cli. Atm i am stuck at getting the image for hive. Is Mac M1 / ARM provided? ...let me know if there is a better place to ask such questions.

Hey there!

Thanks for wanting to check out Stackable! Providing ARM images has been something we wanted to tackle for a while, but haven't gotten around to do so. Other features have taken priority so far.

What I mean to say is: We don't support ARM environments at the moment. There are no up-to-date ARM images I could point you to. Sorry for the inconvenience.

(I also wouldn't recommend running AMD images via QEMU either. There be dragons.)

If you can get access to an AMD machine with enough resources, spinning up a temporary k8s cluster this way, using something like kind, is a good option to run any of our demo setups.

Hi there - just curious if ARM support was on the horizon yet. I'd be very interested in using the Stackable Spark operator as the Google one doesn't seem to be supported any longer. ARM support is a must-have for my company though.

Hi @barrettc we've done two spikes/PoCs now with ARM and it works in principle, I believe.
@vsupalov @Maleware please correct me if I'm talking rubbish.

Our trouble was always missing GitHub ARM runners so we'd need to find a different CI platform and that was always just a little too much work and so far we didn't have a customer asking for ARM support in production, for development it was always enough to use the non-ARM images.

I'll bring your feedback into our planning because I know there are at least two people in the company eager to get that merged :)
