I can see why things would try to be more simple by default and consistent across installs but this would be a potentially relevant one for the #268 & potentially the #266 conversation as it would be a fundamental aspect of a DE |

We do not need a "panel" because in helloSystem, Preferences are just regular applications. A "panel" as you are probably thinking of is not a UI concept I know from the HIG. The big step forward from System 6 to System 7 was that Control Panels (note the plural!) worked more like regular applications and could be organized in normal folders: In this regard, I think Classic Mac OS was better than Mac OS X, which made things more complicated. |

A Preferences panel is a good Idea for people wants to configure all. I know you want no configuration, but I think: we should have all configured for the most users, but: if the users wants to configure all, Why complicate it by putting few graphic configuration options and leaving the rest in files that many consider cryptic?
